This program offers financial assistance to citizen groups, civic organizations and governmental agencies in the development and/or improvement of Urban Tree Resources.

  The Community Tree Resources Program (Level One) encourages cities to develop an ongoing tree improvement program which, according to Community Forestry standards, qualifies them for Tree City USA designation.

ELIGIBLE PROJECTS

bulletPlanting of all new, healthy nursery tree and shrub stock.
bulletReplacement of city street trees.
bulletNew plantings of city street trees.
bulletTree plantings on city-owned parcels.

SPONSORS SHALL:

bulletEstablish a legally constituted tree board, such as a town board.
bulletConduct an inventory and access the current public trees.
bulletDevelop a community tree plan which must be approved by District Forester or NRD.
bulletDevelop an annual work plan, budget and tree ordinances.
 

FUNDS AVAILABLE

The NRD will provide financial assistance on a per-capita basis.  The maximum contribution shall be $1.00 per capita, up to $5,000, with a minimum contribution of $200 to assist communities with populations less than 200.  This initial funding assistance shall be available for two consecutive years only.
 

The Community Tree Resources program (Level Two) encourages cities to plant new and replacement trees within the community.

ELIGIBLE PROJECTS

Same as level one.

SPONSORS SHALL:

Submit a work plan for tree planting.

Required to match funds provided by the NRD.

FUNDS AVAILABLE

The NRD will provide cost-share of 50% up to $3000.00 per community, for projects which have been approved by the District.  Funds will be limited to one request per community per 10 years.
